Hi Victor I found it of much interest that you delivered a strong speech against casteism when at the Goan Convention in June. I was to attend the same Convention and planned to speak on casteism too but unfortunately, the Convention date clashed with another conference I had to attend in Scotland. I am looking forward to your 'promise' to write on Goanet about casteism among supposedly Catholic Goans in Goa. I have now discovered so much more about the complicity in caste by the Catholic Church in Goa. It is truly shameful. Regards Cornel PS Perhaps you will also say a little more about Goan casteism in Lisbon. Victor Rangel-Ribeiro <[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
At the convention of Goans in Lisbon this past June, I learned from one of the attendees that casteism was rife and dividing the community there. I dumped my prepared notes and spoke out strongly against the unfairness and injustice inherent in perpetuating the caste system. A few people complimented me on taking a stand, but I do not believe I made too many converts. I spoke my mind because I felt the issue needed to be addressed, and as perhaps the oldest attendee there my words as a community elder would carry some weight. Regards, Victor Rangel-Ribeiro
