Hi Mervyn,
What you say is being done in India as well under
wildlife conservation projects such as the Panna Tiger
Radio-telemetry Project. There are large-scale efforts
in India to conserve wildlife.
Please see: http://www.wildlife.in/
Dr. Ullas Karanth has launched a successful campaign
in this regard, and is now the world's foremost expert
on saving the tiger from extinction. He has in fact
put substantial amounts of his own money into this
noble endeavor. Next time you go to India, please
visit the Nagarhole wildlife national park in
Karnataka, about 100 kms from Mysore.
Cheers,
Santosh
