A new year is almost upon us!!

We have to pat ourselves on the back and congratulate
ourselves. Some discerning ones may want to kick
themselves in the shins, but discernment seems to be
in short supply these days in Goa.

Nature spared us the tsunami and general good judgment
have spared us communal violence and unrest in Goa.
Nevertheless, our self-righteous vision has managed to
cut off Goa's nose to spite its face. Disfigurement
can be attractive to those with a perpetual stick in
hand and the need to wield it.

Threatening tourists was a stroke of genius. Genius it
is said is akin to madness. To single-handedly disrupt
the economy in a sector where damage of this sort will
take years to recover, if ever, was a stroke at the
heart of Goa. One has to wonder if such a move was not
pre-meditated and designed to handicap the Goan
Catholic community in the South. This vote-bank is
most dependent on the revenue of tourists as well as
being a Congress vote-bank.

The problem with a xenophobia-myopia virus is it
doesn't know where to stop building the wall and after
the wall is built, it generally doesn't have a plan as
to what to do next. So consumed is it with
elimination, that the process and the alternative is
of no concern.

Goans, let's celebrate New Year's Eve this year. Let's
drink lustily of our madness and sing our last Hurrah.
