I have been following the discussion on the issue of the act of Babush
Monserrate, and the police reaction to it, in a cursory manner. I would like to
make some comments on the following statement of Averthan D'Souza:
"Unfortunately the action of the Police has come under media attack, while the
provocation is being downplayed."

I do not think that the provocation has been downplayed. The problem is that
since the reaction took place so quickly after the provocation, the later
events appear to have received more comment. Also, since the reaction was by
the police, in the very nature of things the event would get more publicity. I
do wonder why the police in Goa took such an action. I thought the police in
Goa were 'mild' and such type of over-reaction happens only in other states.
Were they pressurised to act in this manner, as is alleged by Babush?

Some time ago, there was a post on this list which spoke in glowing terms of
the 'wonderful' action by Babush in toppling the Parikar government. I had then
asked what were the views of Babush on issues like education, economics, etc.
There was silence. It seems to me that all of a sudden a hero has become a zero.
