I was going to reply to Samir, but then I read Floriano's excellent response and I do not think I have hardly anything to add except that I feel extremely sad when I see our own Goans who supposedly hold such high academic qualifications writing such nonsense.
The true Goan freedom fighters are those who fought for the independence of Goa. Not the fake ones that currently live on our Goan taxpayers money, who sold our land to our neighbours and accepted the disrespect and the robbery that followed post 1961 for the population of Goa. This has nothing to do with favouritism towards Portugal. I keep being misinterpreted. This has to do with the betrayal that happened from both Portugal (1975-1976) and India (1961) regarding the real true freedom fighters who were fighting for a free, independent and democratic Goa. Freedom meant for them liberation from Portugal and independence for Goa. We got the first but never got the latter. It is shameful that we use the word liberation for something which was far from liberation. At least the Supreme Court of India had the courage and determination to call 18 Dec 1961 an Act of Conquest and that is what it really was. Goa remains conquered territory whether we like it or not. We remain conquered people. Those who stubbornly continue to call it liberation are trying to escape reality. Would anyone in their sane minds celebrate their mother's rape ?
