Most of the problems in this world have been caused by people who have committed the fundamental sin of "Radical Interpretations", whether it is in respect of passages or Gods as portrayed in our scriptures, or Hussain's paintings, or Novels, Cartoons, etc.
As a writer who has liberally played around with Hindu terms, concepts and ideas, I had expected a lot better of Miguel but sadly he too disappoints on this issue. If Miguel had read my post correctly, he would have figured out what I was trying to convey by using the term "oxymoron". That an Atheist saying God sucks was self-contradictory. Hence, Samir meant the "concept of God" and not God. But sadly, a writer like him does not try to figure out the context of either Samir's post or mine. And to win his argument he gets in a lot of other red herrings into the debate. Like the IT habitat. Jose Colaco keeps saying that English is a strange language but I guess Religion is stranger. It makes even otherwise rational people behave in a rather strange manner. No wonder Samir wrote then that "God sucks". A whole lot of people would endorse Samir's views in their entirety. Like the Nobel Laureate physicist Steven Weinberg who wrote and I quote: "Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." If the believers can propagate the virtues of God to convert the unbelievers into believers and if we deem that as their fundamental and inalienable right, why cant the unbelievers propagate the reverse to spread the spirit of scientific reforms? Why do people here want to clip the wings of the various 'Samir Kelekars" of this world? For those who want to hear only good stuff written about God or religion, my sincere advice to them is to please go to the Temple or the Mosque or the Church. In this forum, you may hear a lot of things that you would not like to. Let this discussion therefore be a progressive one rather than a negative one. After all, it is science and humanism values that have built this World, not religion. Cheers Sandeep ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Miguel Braganza wrote on Goanet: OXYMORON is "putting together words which seem to contradict each other" according to the OXFORD dictionary. "Bitter-sweet" is one example. "Congress Party" is another this Christmas. I do not know if "God Sucks" qualifies as an oxymoron with so many perpetual suckers around. Is Sandeep Heble promising to bring perpetual succour to someone felled by a sucker punch ...specially to someone like the right riband Dr. Samir Kelekar, Ph. D [of the Dayanand's IT Corp of Goa fame] who seems to be drunk on a non-alcohilic fruit punch ...perhaps one that got fermented before he drank it. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
