 This is off topic but some may find it interesting. At least you can quiz
your children.

The young of many animals other than those of the lion are also called
cubs. A boy is a child version of the man who is his father. Not quite grown
up to be a man (as a woman may see him, or for that matter his mother, or
tje family and the world) but clearly traceable to a man rather than any
otther species. Other animals whose young are also referred to as cubs
happen to be the young ones(children) of the walrus, tiger (also referred to
as a whelp), bear, shark, cheetah, raccooon, wolf, pandas, fox (also, kit
and pup), leopard, etc.

But a young beetle is called a grub. Go figure.
