Talking Photo: Petromax or Pettrumas
We called it pettrumas, we had one (imported).
At churches, we also seen them hanging above us.
during late evening Feast salves, Good Friday etc
When the brightness starts to deem
They used to bring it down (thru a rope/pulley) one by one say
every half an hour for pumping and to retain brightness.
And there were about 8-10, 4-5 each side.
I also remember seeing them at Tiatr, zagor, local feast fairs,
dances (suvari) on the feast nights etc.
During my recent visit to Curtorim, I saw them at a kaddio/bobbio stall.

Now, there are different petromax which works on LP gas.

The place/village where I lived, there was no electricity until
around 1975. Which also means there were no fans, fridges, A/c,
TV, Video, DVD etc. We had large 4 band Philips or Panasonic Radio
which worked on 4 large battery cells. We often listen to Ceylon
'Srilanka broadcating Corporation' and I even remember Alfred Rose
songs playing there oncassionaly.
Don't you remember anything like this?
