From: "Santosh Helekar" <[email protected]>
This political interference by a religious organization with the public
policy and constitution of secular country should be rejected by all
secular-minded people. The spread of bigoted false information on
homosexuals by the news service and priests of one particular religion
because of their provincial faith-based beliefs, as is being done below,
deserves nothing but the strongest condemnation.
***Bishops and priests are citizens of the country as Dr.Santosh claims to
be. They have a constitutional right to express their opinions. Their stand
on different issues has its own weight. The Church has to protect the
family. The scientific evidence given by me below about homosexuality comes
from scientific investigation, not from "religious organization" (Catholic
News Service). Dr.Santosh has not refuted it. Let him browse in the Internet
and provide us better "scientific, peer-controlled material"...We have to
distinguish between homosexual orientation and homosexual behaviour.
Homosexual activity is morally wrong. We have to help the homosexuals with
concern so as to use their freedom as much as possible for their renewal. We
call "gay" the one who is "proud" of his homosexual tendency. Gays become
militant and try to attack the values of our culture and militantly intend
to corrupt our youth. Unhealthy, immoral, abnormal behaviour cannot be
legalized (given rights). We need rehabilitation of the homosexuals.
Regards.

What does the scientific evidence show about
homosexuality?
In 1973, the American Psychiatric Association removed
homosexuality from its list of diagnostic disorders. In
retrospect, this decision appears to have been inspired by
political pressure rather than medical evidence.
Homosexuals of both sexes remain fourteen times more likely
to attempt suicide than heterosexuals and 3½ times more
likely to commit suicide successfully. Thirty years ago,
this propensity toward suicide was attributed to social
rejection, but the numbers have remained largely stable
since then despite far greater public acceptance than
existed in 1973. Study after study shows that male and
female homosexuals have much higher rates of interpersonal
maladjustment, depression, conduct disorder, childhood abuse
(both sexual and violent), domestic violence, alcohol or
drug abuse, anxiety, and dependency on psychiatric care than
heterosexuals. Life expectancy of homosexual men was only
forty-eight years before the AIDS virus came on the scene,
and it is now down to thirty-eight. Only 2 percent of
homosexual men live past age sixty-five.
Male homosexuals are prone to cancer (especially anal
cancer, which is almost unheard-of in male heterosexuals)
and various sexually transmitted diseases, including
urethritis, laryngitis, prostatitis, hepatitis A and B,
syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, and genital warts
(which are caused by the human papilloma virus, which also
causes genital cancers). Lesbians are at lower risk for STDs
but at high risk for breast cancer. Homosexuals of both
sexes have high rates of drug abuse, including cocaine,
marijuana, LSD and other psychedelics, barbiturates, and
amyl nitrate.
