From a medical standpoint there is no inconsistency between the above claim and 
the list that I have provided below, which is much more precise. Hypertension 
is a cardiovascular disease. The most common way in which diabetes and 
hypertension cause death is by causing heart attacks or strokes i. e. ischemic 
heart disease and cardiovascular disease mentioned in the list below. The 
self-inflicted injuries in the list below are in most cases likely due to 
depression. There is no other commonly recognized way in which depression by 
itself can cause death, if you discount any associated life threatening ailment.
