That they have sold the church property etc etc. But I cannot understand the
reason for this grumbling since we have made them corrupt. We want to show off
ourselves and will give big donations in cash to the church. Many times the
priest get tempted to keep the entire donation as the giver sometimes does not
insist on a receipt. Sometimes the receipt may be fake one too. Secondly the
Bishop house which fixes the salary should in the first case come to reality.
What is the salary offered to the priest ? I think the parish priest gets
around three thousand .I do not know whther with this he has to pay for his
food or not. If he has to pay for his food with today's inflation an ordinary
priest who eats two simple meals of rice and curry ( fish I do not want to
include) with one papad will cost him at least Rs20 a day per meal multiplied
by two and then again multiplied by 30 , or 31 the amount will be
such that he will have to go to the neighbour's house for meals at least for
ten days. Then petrol charges. I keep normal charges at the rate of Rs.50 for
two or three days. Laundary charges. He needs at least four sets of pants,
shirts, etc etc at least a set for one year. I feel that a parish priest of A
class churches like Mapuca, Panjim, Margao should be paid at least Rs.25,000/
and his assistant Rs20,000/- In other parishes it can be 20,000/- and 15000/-
nothing less. I know the retired bishop in India is paid by the holly se at the
rate of 500/- dollars. So we should first fight for the salary of priests then
point out fingers at them.
