Caldeira, spokesman for archdiocese of Goa and Daman, said on Thursday.
The church was reacting to the recent controversy after the release of an audio
CD named ‘Dogui Bodmas’. The CD had triggered protests during the new year
celebrations with Colva residents taking to the street. Local police had
registered a complaint against Calvert Gonsalves, producer of the CD.
Fr Caldeira said that the church has got a battering for 2,000 years and it has
survived. “Now our stand is
what Jesus took. Forgive them and take the battering,” he commented. Gonsalves
was booked under Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on
grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language) and 295A
(deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any
class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the IPC. The audio CD
containing the sound track of the movie “Dogui Bodmas”, released by
Gonsalves on December 25, had kicked off a controversy as it highlighted,
though fictitiously, the nexus between
a politician and a priest to grab church property and indulge in adultery.
