FROM ABORIGINALS... TO STUDYING CYBERSPACE
Alberto G. Gomes Ph.D is professor at the School of Social Sciences,
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at La Trobe University in
Victoria, Australia. Some years ago, he wrote an unusual academic
paper on Goanet, Goa's most popular mailing list in cyberspace, which
is available here:

But the anthropologist has also been working on aborginals in
Malaysia, and is keen to look at the situation of the earliest
settlers in Goa too. Needless to say, his family hails from this
region and is part of the great Goan diaspora, that saw people from
here settle far and wide over past generations. Incidentally, his book
on the aboriginals in Malaysia is doing well and gaining attention. In
a freewheeling interview, he talks of his work, his priorities, and
his family's migration history. Off-tape, prior to the interview, he
also mentioned how he met another half-Goan academic... and without
even guessing his origins, got off to talking Indonesian with him!

A CARDIOLOGIST, A WRITER ... AND SENDING SKILLS ACROSS
Antonio (J. Anthony/Tony) Gomes is a Professor of Medicine
(Cardiology) at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine of New York
University. In between diagnosing and healing hearts, he spent long
hours crafting a novel set in the 1960s in a Goa caught in the throes
of transition. His novel moves from Loutolim to Baga, from Pangim to
other places we are all familiar with. It focuses on the lives of a
Goan family around the last months of Portuguese rule. Here, he talks
of his work, his writing, migration, and even plans for building the
Goa America Heart Foundation to promote cardiology treatment and
options available in Goa itself.
