PANAJI: The state government has invited research projects assessing the 
elementary education scenario in the state under the Goa Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. 
The state plans to use the research outcome to provide parameters to streamline 
the SSA interventions. 

The purpose of the project is to help evaluate the present scenario of 
elementary education in terms of teaching-learning processes, child and teacher 
attendance etc. The state has invited proposals from teachers, teachereducators 
and teacher-trainees from colleges in the state, District Institute of 
Education Training and faculty of the State Council for Educational Research 
and Training for research in the field of elementary education. The state is 
also open to proposals from groups of teacher-trainees or teachers interested 
in working together on the subject. The state will also use the study thus 
produced to inspire other departments, organizations, agencies and institutions 
to introduce a more appropriate innovation to improve the present condition of 
elementary education in the state. 

With regards to pupil attendance, the state has suggested subjects such as 
attendance at the primary and upper primary level and new enrolments in 
standard I to V; the enrolment in situational and The state has also invited 
research on routine classroom processes and their effectiveness, level of 
teacher preparedness in contents and methods of teaching, ability to use 
teacher-learning materials and their effectiveness, innovativeness in 
preparing, developing and designing teaching learning methods, ability to 
organize effective programmes and classroom transaction for activitybased 
learning among other subjects. 

The state has also encourage research in the role of parent teacher 
associations of the schools. seasonal contexts, such as the period nearing 
local festivals, during examinations, sickness etc; effectiveness of the midday 
meal scheme in enhancing attendance and retention of the children in school 
among others. In case of teacher attendance, the state has invited research on 
the attendance of new appointees and teachers nearing retirement, attendance in 
case of teachers marked negatively by superiors, the ability to teach 
effectively and tendencies to come late and leave earlier than the scheduled
