I had given my input to Floriano's mail as I knew he would take it in the right spirit. Although constraint of time do not permit me still I shall briefly reply to the suggestions made by Florianobab and Eugene bab in the following mails hoping it may be a atleast drop in the ocean. If time permits I shall deal in details with the subject at a later date. I shall write in Konkani since I will be able to express myself better in that language and on that language. Dear Fausto,

...And yes. Konkani needs to be standardized. And, you, of all people can be
one of the important motivators in this direction.

Monis, Munis vo Muniso is one great example.

Eugene worte:
....More than anything, Konkani needs to bridge the different gaps and come,
as Fausto suggested, an standardized form.
Then arises the question: which one is standarized form, one that satisfies
the worthies at the DKA or the one that satisfies the Devnagiri proponents?
...Standard, formal, colloquial or dialectic, Konkani in any form must be
understand by speakers from different communities and from different
geographical areas where the language is being used, no matter widely or in
small circles. From Goa to Mangalore to Kerala, Konkani needs to be
harnessed in the best interests of its speakers.
Finding fault or crying foul on its different usage does not serve the cause
of Konkani. Hence, it does not matter if Floriano, Thomazinho, Fausto or
Borges agree or disagree on the usage of certain words or the pronounciation
of them. The predicament that Floriano had placing an extra "n" in Konkanni
or if the Kendra is right in the other spelling, Konknni, in its nameplate,
is the predicament many not-so-frequent writers of the language will face.
...As much as I want both Borges and Thomazinho to sharpen their pencils and
cross each other out in a debate on this forum on the Devnagiri vs Romi
issue and, by extension, on the roles the DKA plays in promoting Romi
Konkani and the Goa Konkani Akademi in pushing forward or sustaining the
Devnagiri form, I wish they do not physically get on stage to have a debate.
The debate could wind up become a farce or, if I may say, a tiatr that could
be categorized in the Theatre of the Absurd. Let them continue trading
barbed words. I, for one, enjoy their exchanges as it provides me some
insights into the working minds of these two stalwarts doing battle in their
own little ways for Mai Bhas. No doubt I have put my toe into this hot bowl
of language soup, I do not want anyone to draw me in totally. I am no expert
on Konkani but a lay person who read a lot of Konkani in my younger days and
wrote a little with some help from friends but has spent considerable time
talking, listening and arguing with some noted Konkani writers of my early
adulthood in Mumbai in the offices of Ave Maria, The Goa Mail, Goa Times and
The Goan Sports Weekly.
Fausto knows for sure that I subscribed to Gulab during my stay in Dubai. I
devoured it, at times struggling as much as Floriano on what word "sounded"
right to my ears. I have probably said it here but for sure I have said it
to people in the Konkani movement in Goa that a large part of the new
generation of Goans in Goa are not reading books and periodicals published
in Konkani.
For me, the real debate lies in asking those who are in the front ranks of
promoting and sustaining Konkani and those like me who want the language to
survive no matter what the odds are is how to come to terms with the current
situation. The very fear of Konkani losing its hold on the current
generation and the neglect and abandonment by the future generation should
bring votaries of Konkani on a common ground and fight unitedly instead of
dueling with each other with their pens.
It matters not whether we are standing on the "paltade" or "poltoda" side or
on the "altode" sides on the issue, we must must midstream and embrace each
other and toast to the language that both unites and divides us.
