Is the media wrong in depicting Goa as the rape capital? What is the 
impression about goans in the minds of the general public of India? They are 
given the impressions that goans are doing nothing but lazing on the beach 
with booze and fun loving semi-nude women.  Students studying in colleges 
outside Goa may have a better understanding of this reality.
Secondly, if just a few cases of rape are sensationalised it does not mean 
that the reality beneath the surface is different. Young women are 
definitely not safe in Goa any more and it is only the courageous who sit up 
and fight back. Women are looked as commodities by some industrialists, some 
politicians and the tourism industry.
