Talking Photos: Happy Feast to all Sanvonddekars Feast of Guardian Angel celebrated today At Sanvodem Chruch (14.11.10). 6 priest concelebrated mass with Fr. Waldeim Rodrigues, Superior of Padri Pio Seminary, Navelim being the main celebrant. I thought there would be a huge ‘Anjo Custodio’ on the main altar. But the altar itself looks modern say about 25-50 years old. It has a large holy cross (Crucifix) as main altar. Records (net) show that the church was established in 1936 (about 64 years old)
This is the only church in Goa and whole of Asia which is dedicated to Guardian Angel (Anjo Custodio). A church volunteer (long haired) there told us there are only two churches in the world that are dedicated to the Guardian Angel The other one being at Rome. We arrived there too late, thanks to the ‘Sick’ Zuari bridge. Despite subscribing to all four English dailies, none of us remember reading the ‘bridge closure’ news item. Fyi, the sick bridge remains closed for 3 hours once in every 3 month 6-9am on Sundays. 3-4 ferryboats ferry Pax and 2 wheelers. We arrived at the church at around 10.30am (Highh mass was at 9.30) Around 11’clock there was a power failure too, could not take better pics of the priests. We have spotted Anthony San (see pic) and Luiza look alike. If Luiza is from Sanvodem, then it must be her – see pic Another thing I learnt today 'Custodio' means guardian There are many Goans named 'Custodio' (alias Kistu).
