This refers to the comment by the person who hides himself behind his initials V M.

1 V M risks being labeled "peevish" and "offensive" himself/herself, trying to sweep my legitimate complaint under his/her rug of prejudice. V M seems to use the word "Delhi-wallah" the way street urchins might use profanities. I live in Delhi true but live in Goa as well. My ties to Goa are deep and abiding and my children are part Goan. I said Bomras is a Burmese restaurant but its staff is northeastern and behaved in a racist manner.

2 I did indeed barge into the kitchen after asking to see the chef several several times. In this unforgivable travesty the staff visited on me and my extended family, I did want to let him know of the considerable anguish caused to me and the family. First, they told me he was busy and could not come out; then they said he was not around; finally, when I walked in, he had disappeared through some back door. If indeed, the restaurant was right that I had no booking and I was wrong to insist on a table, he could have met with me. Such evasive behavior left no doubt in my mind there was something awry. Also, my reference to the Burmese junta had to do with the fact that the chef-owner played hide-and-seek; perhaps you have to be evasive in dealing with a brutal regime but this is free-wheeling India.

3 To say that Bomras' kitchen is more professional and hygienic than others in Candolim, Goa is not only a put down of all local competition, it is testimony to a narrow worldview. My standards are global and Bomras' kitchen simply does not rise to them.

4 It is not for me assess the contribution of the "young Kachin chef" to Goa. My submission was simply to express indignation at the third humiliating experience I had with the restaurant. It is India and one can express one's opinion. So can V M but his carp should be to the point. Why bring in extraneous issues?

As for the final assertion that the chef has made a huge contribution to Goa, I say good for him; now do it without prejudice. As for the question: "Can anyone make any similar claims about Rajiv Desai?" I leave it for Goanetters to answer.
