A sad day for GOA, indeed.

My inputs to this post are interspersed

Subject: [Goanet] MOI - parents have spoken

http://www.oheraldo.in/News/Local%20News/PARENTS-HAVE-SPOKEN/49553.html

PARENTS HAVE SPOKEN

*School:* Shantadurga High School (Bicholim)
No. of students in primary: *550*
Parents opting for English: *0*
Parents opting for Marathi: *550*
Parents opting for Konkani: *0*

“I strongly oppose the move of teaching our children in English. It is only
when base is strong and is done through their mother tongue that they could
understand it properly.”
- *Sham Naik, government servant*

FL: Is Marathi Goa's mother tongue?? Does children of Sham Naik ( if he has any) speak fluent Marathi from birth?? Is 'Marathi' the spoken language at home ?

“I feel that English is essential, but the mother tongue should be medium of
instruction at the primary level. >>>- *Sujata Chari, teacher*

FL: Are the children of Sujata Chari ( if she has any) speak Marathi from birth that the MOI should be in Marathi?? Is 'Marathi' the spoken language at home?

(*Inputs from Samir Umarye*)

Anil: My question to the contributors to the subject of MOI:
Are these parents Goan?

FL: In the case of the above two 'specimens' and if the answers to my questions is 'YES' , Then the parents are definately MAHARASHTRIAN and not GOAN.

Anil: Do their views matter?
FL: DEFINATELY NO. Because these views are that of Shashikala KAKODKAR and Shashikala Bandodkar's ONLY, spoken through the above two overly influenced mouths when the pointers are elsewhere.

Anil: Do you know that this result might be replicated in hundreds of other
primary schools across goa?

FL: This scenario existed even from the Portuguese era. So what is so different??? This is going to be most 'unfortunate' for GOA and GOANS in the long run. It is not 'DIRECT' but 'INDIRECT' M E R G E R of GOA into Maharashtra, exactly what Shashikala and her ilk WANTS. [ Remember Adv. Amrut Kansar's public declaration that Bandodkar imported Marathi speaking Hindu bhats from Maharashtra in dozens to POISON the minds of KONKANI speaking GOAN Hindus??] However, true GOANs will not let this happen like they have not let it happen with the 'direct' Merger OPTION through the infamous OPINION POLL of 1967 which shouldn't have taken place in the first place, IF PANDIT JAWAHARLAL NEHRU WAS AT ALL SINCERE.

PS: That 'ENGLISH' as a subject but 'KONKANI' [ NOT MARATHI ] must be the MOI in GOA Government-run PRIMARY SCHOOLS is the line pursued by GOA SU-RAJ PARTY.
