From: Mervyn Maciel Speaking of Goans in the London and Outer London Areas, maybe Stella Mascarenhas-Keyes or even Eddie Fernandes or Flavio Gracias as President of the Goan Association(UK)? =========================================
RESPONSE: I attended a pre Global Goans Convention meeting in London last month. Among those present was Flavio Gracias, President of the Goan Association (UK) and Dr Stella Mascarenhas-Keyes, anthropologist and researcher. Selma Carvalho was unable to attend. I raised the subject of estimating the number of UK Goans since there had been several enquiries and wanted to avoid confusion by providing conflicting responses. After some discussion, we agreed that a figure of 100,000 UK Goans in 2011 was our best guesstimate. Re Swindon: An article in the Indian Express, 17 July 2011 puts the Goan population of Swindon at 50,000 and Wembley at 15,000 (see http://goo.gl/8wVeR ). However, a figure of 10,000 for Swindon is more reliable. Given the total Swindon population of 180,051 at the latest census, it would mean 5.5% of the inhabitants are Goan and this must surely rank as the highest density of Goans in any city outside of Goa.
