I shall go one step forward and explain what the good doc is saying.
During 2007 elections, when I contested Aldona seat, mine was a new face
[with a snow-white beard not amounting to Santa Claus' :-)]
At an interacting meet with key constituents (Porvorim), most present said
that they will vote for floriano because he is clean, has so many PILs in
the HC, is a social activist etc etc.
I told them not to vote for 'floriano'. True, he is all that, but what if he
has an ulterior motive? What if he wants to use his credits to get to
places? He could succumb when enjoying power and could make money for
himself and others too at your cost.
Don't vote you vote for 'floriano', I told them. Vote for the Goa Su-Raj
Party and what it stands for. If the Party fields a 'donkey' vote for that
'donkey' because it will be guided by the Party. That will be your
satisfaction.
The result was, there were umpteen, incoherent protests, saying they needed
a face to vote for.
In the bargain, floriano got 433 votes out of 28,000 odd votes in the
constituency.
During the same elections, this is what I told Corjuemkars at the Corjuem
Club.
"You have a proud but overly costly brand new suspension bridge connecting
Aldona proper to Corjuem. Suppose floriano is standing on that bridge,
looking at the Assembly Complex at Porvorim and contemplating jumping into
the water to swim up there. But he is just standing there not wanting to
jump. He knows that if he is in the water, surely he will swim and reach his
destination. BUT HE IS NOT JUMPING.
Therefore, you guys get behind him and give him a SHOVE. If you do that, you
will have succeeded in sending floriano to the Goa Legislative Assembly and
you guys will have the right to remind him later who pushed him into the
water in the first place."
Sadly, they almost pushed FERMINA KAUNTO. However, the push that Narvekar
got was more robust and powerful.

PS: No regrets. Presently GRA, along with the willing people of the Aldona
constituency wants to promote anyone who the people of Aldona want to push
at the 'CANDIDATE SELECTION CONVENTION to be held shortly wherein more than
3 shall be sought to be pushed. As also in all other Constituencies of GOA.

Clean faces is subjective. A ‘Face’ itself is debatable among two
people. What is more important is character that can be substantiated with
evidence. If one goes into the background of the ‘new faces’, one will
realise
if the ‘new faces’ have succumbed to forces that be, or stood by their
commitments!
What I cannot understand is that people who have seen the ins and outs
of the political hypocrisy, still are
so naïve. We do not need new faces for our Goa to be governed by statesmen.
We
need a rational electorate!!!
