Just a comment: Under the Indian Copyrights Act, 1957, the "author" of the work is "in relation to a cinematograph film, the owner of the film at the time of its completion". This means that the even the producer and director of a film could have "sold" it to anyone at the time of its completion, making them the de jure "author". http://www.ircc.iitb.ac.in/webnew/Indian%20Copyright%20Act%201957.html
Also, importantly: In the case of a cinematograph film, copyright subsists until fifty years from the beginning of the calendar year next following the year in which the film is published. But there can be exceptions too: * Sometimes, the copyright-holder may permit someone else to screen a work, for a fee, or without a fee. * Not every copyright owner might want to restrict circulation of their work. For instance, see my photos at http://photosfromgoa.notlong.com which I'm quite happy to have reproduced for non-commercial purposes. JoeGoaUk has given permission to a whole lot of us to reproduce particular useful photos too. I think Jerome Mendes of Leonoras is doing one heck of a job in promoting Goan culture, and if the copyright owner has no problem, then I'd be grateful to him for making these films accessible. In a number of cases, it is also possible that the copyright owners might not be around or aware or interested in their work. There are a number of Goan cultural products which are now in the copyright-expired field, and we need to get them into the public-and-available domain.
