The AJAX API is definitely a sound solution for this. I have used it  
myself many times. As for the rest of the googlygoop in my reply, the  
add a url form is pretty straight forward. Just follow the  
instructions. And the Webmaster Tools stuff will help you all along  
the way. The development of a sitemap (which Webmaster Tools will walk  
you through) will help, especially if the site will have a lot of  
content that changes frequently.
