We are suffering something pretty similar. Without having made any kind of change either in the application configuration (in the console) or the actual code (deployments), during the day we have been suffering an abnormal low performance and continuous errors (500 server error, ExceptionInInitializerError, DeadlineExceededException. Additionally we noticed that for a normal work load the total number of instances created has increased significantly during the last 12 hours (please see attached screenshot).
