Same concern here, my app will soon be going into production. That plus API changes since it's in preview.
The documentation says 'We hope to raise this limit in the future.' so I suppose it is not a hard limit. What I did was limit the indexed text per documents to 500 to 1000 Kb depending on what it is indexing.
