Al, I had corrected my statement, stating that on average the Full Text Search component takes about 0.8s.
With regards to the snippet bug, I've honestly lost faith in Google's willingness/ability to fix issues quickly (case in point, I raised this issue almost a year ago and it's still open https://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=8370<https://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/detail?id=8370&q=full%20text%20search&colspec=ID%20Type%20Component%20Status%20Stars%20Summary%20Language%20Priority%20Owner%20Log>).
