It will flash warnings at you, asking you to reconsider. We consider it a best practice to keep releases around forever -- even if buggy -- just for the sake of your users, old links, internet archivists, etc. The warnings will suggest that you instead mark it 'deprecated', so that it doesn't show up on the downloads list, but is still available at the old URL.
