Did you ever find the answer to this question? I have the same problem. I am using Google Groups as my mailing list, but I cannot find anywhere to enable this!
The message from Google Code says: "If your project mailing lists only allow posts from member addresses, you will need to allow the new From: address to post on each mailing list. Here's what you need to do:" .... the rest is the same as the above post. However, there is no information regarding where to enter this new From: address.
