Dmitry,

I agree that they've taken something good that works well and changed it. I
disagree that they've transformed it into something that doesn't. There are
almost certainly bugs; I hope people like you, who have apparently found
several of them, will contribute by helping the team find and squash them.

I also disagree about the "you don't hear your users" issue. Right now
we're three weeks into the new platform, and we currently have practice
mode and code downloads as *new features* in that time, while they're also
making sure the new platform works under load. I don't imagine those
features would have come out so quickly if there weren't so many people
excited about them.

I think it's fair to disagree. I also think that if lots of people
disagree, a compromise might be reached. Different sites have different
philosophies on that -- I've taken advantage of TopCoder's open input data,
and been challenged by UVA's closed data, before.

One final thought: It's good that you're excited about this, but please
remember the human behind the keyboard. Pablo and the whole team are
working on Code Jam as a labour of love. There's other stuff they could be
doing at Google, and most of them are 20%ers. They're doing this because
they're excited about it and passionate about it, and it can be hard when
you're in that position to get harsh feedback.

Sincerely,
Bartholomew
