I think one the big reasons that it is spilling over to the dev. forum is that NO ONE from google is responding on the message boards to which you linked. "igoogle guide Paul" has responded to 15 of the Thousands of posts where people do NOT want left tabs. He won't post an answer that answers any questions and buries them in what seems like a random posts. Dan you took the time to respond to each of the posts in your forum AND you made a sticky. Thank you, your co worker has chosen not to. What I would like to see: -Option to disable left tab, maybe a developer can make a gaget to get rid of it without grease monkey script. -Advance notice of these kind of MAJOR changes to the use and functionality of the page. because of these changes i have discovered these forums, as have probably hundreds of other users, and now feel that posting on the personalizing site is pointless and breaks the trust of the users. What really suprised me is that in the past I feel google did a great job of announcing new things, making us excited about them and listening to the comments. this rollout has ruined my goodwill toward google and make me hesitant of any future changes. - I don't want full canvas with gmail, its akward and hard to get back to my main page. I have browsers that can do tabs - and they do that on the top of the screen, i don't need left tabs to clutter up the screen. - as a user I have plenty of choices on other sites to do the same thing that Igoogle used to do. I am choosing to write because i used to really like google and feel this sudden change and the lack of listening to its users is a dire sign of a company that is turning evil.
i'll leave you with an anology. Google set up the igoogle pages and said customize your page. Similar to telling a person to build a sandcastle at the beach. build what ever you want in the space provided. then oct 16th google with out any notice decided to bring a bulldozer and crunch the sandcastle 30% to the right, distorting the castle and wasting space (for what will eventually become ads), after spending hours building a sandcastle just the way you wanted wouldn't you be upset?
