This issue is being tracked for the Legacy API here:

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, the disabling of content rewriting
that Dan suggests in the message below is unavailable to gadget
authors who are still using the Legacy API.

I have attempted the work around above detailed above in this thread
by String, as well as the one he proposes in the thread below, neither
resolve the issue.

I have noticed however that reloading a page with an affected gadget
will cause the new load of the gadget to adjust the height properly.
