Maybe be should spread the word far and wide to have everyone install Picasa, even if they don't use it. Install it and register it.
I installed Picasa 3.5 by using 7Zip to archive the Picasa3 folder on a Windows machine (gasp!), and unarchived it into the Google directory in Fedora, after renaming the existing Picasa3 directory. I then painstakingly set the permissions to match the old installation, and now it runs just fine.
