 Rather than make photocopies of rebate materials, I take photos to
 be stored in my /rebates/ subdirectory. The problem arises if I need
 to print one of these images. I've tried a number of methods, but
 all
 result in a lighter or darker gray for the 'white' backgrounds.

 Is there a GOOD way of maximizing contrast approaching an actual photocopy?

don't know about "GOOD", but I ...

effects =>  B&W
tuning => Neutral Color (color picker)
   pick nearest to dead white

see if that fits...

Better is zeroing out the saturation and boosting the highlights, but it's not perfect. You'd think this would be a handy function and easy to implement -- only two colors!
