Without a doubt, the Flash API provides access to many capabilities
and is sufficient for many projects. This is not the same as saying
that the Flash API can replace the ECMAScript API. Just looking at
the open issues in the Issue Tracker, it is undeniable that a feature
gap exists. Here are six of the many open issues which I believe best
illustrate this point.

* Traffic overlay (345)
* Editable polylines / polygons (379)
* Street view (524)
* AdsManager support (518)
* Printing support (545)
* GeoXML (323 [1])

I surmise that features will continue to be added to the ECMAScript
libraries first and then selectively rolled out to other APIs.

Please do not take this comment as devaluing the work of the Flash
team. The team just delivered a MAJOR upgrade in functionality which
should be picked up by many enthusiastic developers. I regret that I
am unable to join them with the 1.8 release, but perhaps in 1.9 or
1.10 or... I would PREFER to use the Flash API within AIR projects.
My observations and implied criticisms are driven by a mix of
admiration and frustration. Google Maps continues to amaze me, but it
would be better if only <insert_issues_here> were <select:fixed/
implemented/documented>. I think we each have our lists.

As for <mx:HTML>, there is no issue if the tag is pointed at an
external server. It can also be used to access local content shipped
within the AIR application. Here the situation is less clear.
