unfortunately like bing & openstreet, mapQuest data outside the US isn't very good (though among the "other" three, bing is the "best" from this perspective). we do many projects out in the 'wilds' of SE asia & lately australia and the data quality/coverage is remarkably different. like night & day different in some areas. we could generally count on google's maps to be good enough and up till now, "always there".

we've spent a non-trivial amount of time building up tools to integrate geoServer/postGIS w/google. now going to have to re-do all of that & likely produce a worse product (because of lower quality spatial data). oops.
