No and its an odd misfire on there part since the vector rendering

engines each handle polygon islands directly (vml / svg / canvas )
I might be missing something but  It seems like a fix that would take
a couple
hours ok maybe a day of programmer time since each renderer might
do things slightly different.

 ... note googles serverside image creation code does not handle these
correctly even for encoded polylines.
