thanks for the answer, but this is not the functionality I'm looking
for.

I want the same functionality as on Google's own page maps.google.com
(newest american version). You see a Streetview button on
maps.google.com only if You have zoomed/panned to an area, where are
some Streetviews (more or less) available. (If You click in the next
step on this button the streetview areas become blue outlined)
