> what is the diff between 4326 and WGS84? they use the same coordinate system, but are different things.
WGS84 is a datum, which defines the size and shape of the earth as an ellipsoid, and the origin and orientation of the coordinate system. EPSG:4326 is a map projection, which displays longitude as x, and latitude as y, where the latitude and longitude are in WGS84 coordinates. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equirectangular_projection WGS84 is a datum designed for global usage, and is used worldwide because of the GPS positioning system. Before GPS was invented each country/continent used a more accurate datum for the local area. It is very common for coordinate shifts of a few hundred metres between these different datums, http://www.colorado.edu/geography/gcraft/notes/datum/gif/shift.gif --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps API" group.
