OK, I have put together the demo. It's at http://nick.brown.free.fr/stuff/gmapbug.html There's almost no app code in there, and what there is, is almost completely different from my original app.
To use: - Drag or insert points in the red zone. No problem. - Click the blue zone. It goes red and you can drag or insert points. Still no problem. - Reload, so we're starting from a clean base. - Click one of the points of the red zone to delete it. You now have a red triangle and a blue rectangle. - Click the blue zone. It goes red. Click a point to delete it. You now have a red triangle and a blue triangle. - Click the original red zone. The zone you were just editing goes blue, but there are two red points left, a ghost one and a "solid" one. - With some experimentation, you can find that the "zombie" edit points act like real ones, but they don't zoom properly. I have included an alert() immediately after the call to clearOverlays (). At that point, I presume that any overlay points still visibile on the map are due to a bug. I've checked this on Chrome, IE7, and Firefox 3, with the same issue in each case.
