I think you get a 4 star because you are rather correct, I think the api is a moving target, but maybe because I sometimes shoot at some of its nebulous parts which you arent going to learn from a book.
I've yet to encounter a book which I didn't have to fix the examples by hunting down all the latest changes on the web... (my boss buys these things) the process of book publishing is too slow. I dont know that is the case with either examples mentioned in this thread but...
