Well yes, but the geocoder () / geocoder.getLatLng() engine as used
here 
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/examples/geocoding-simple.html
had the enormous advantage of parsing anything you threw at it,
address, coordinates in various formats, etc...so you coud have just
one search box fits all.

So before I start toiling at that (unless someone has a quick fix)I
would still be interested in knowing if that has now changed for good
or it's temporary like a couple of weeks ago.
