That is true ; they are to do with the official Static Maps access.
Why are you committed to that other one?

No it doesn't, look carefully ; bratliffs demo is static map based.

That's true too.  It's more flexible than the way you've chosen, both
in zooms and image size.  I've completely lost sight of what you are
trying to acheieve so I don't know why that is a problem to you.
