It really depends what features you want from a marker. The Google 
GMarkers have:

   Separate shadows (i.e. ones that lie below other markers)
   Organized overlap behaviour.
   Clickable, even when in the shadow of an info window.

The Live and Yahoo markers in your benchmark don't do any of that.

A fair comparison would be to use custom markers without .shadow, 
.transparent or .imageMap, which causes the code to run 2.5 times 
faster, making Google the fastest of the three on my machine.

Are Live or Yahoo markers clickable? If not it would also be fair to add 
{clickable:false} which gains a few more milliseconds.
