Thanks for the replies guys. So the 25K data is available only through the Multimap API? Or is it available through the OS API? The uses are for off-road rather than on- road, so the 25K data is the real deal-clincher. Even better would be anything that could integrate into some form of 3D rendering of the contours - I see the KML link you posted and that is very interesting.
I want to use it for non-profit sports stuff (Off road downhill) so I am not hugely worried about litigation - mapstraction already seems to integrate the two and I think the wording is a little ambiguous. I never really explored using google earth as a front end for viewing a database of locations normally provided to a google maps API front end via AJAX, but I suppose all that is possible too. I was considering maybe doing the whole thing using the multimap API, but was worried about limiting myself to just one API that I wasn't sure of the future of.
