I was actually going to have both a desktop AND a web application. I was going to develop a desktop application which provides similar functionality to that of a web application but allows for offline data which can be synchronised later on. Both would have the Google Maps API.
What I was trying to say was from what you're saying, as long as the maps api implementation is available to EVERYBODY, even when their free trial has ran out, then I am ok to use the free API (therefore, like you say, other aspects of the system would cost money) That is a very good trip cost calculator! Would be really nice if they released that as a web service, as that's exactly what I need it for :- P On Dec 15, 4:07 pm, Marcelo <marcelo...@hotmail.com> wrote: > On Dec 15, 4:49 pm, jdrawmer <j...@formasual.net> wrote: > > > Ok - judging by this I can do the following... > > > I can develop my program as planned, still charge users for the > > program after 30 days AS LONG as the implementation of the Google Maps > > API is still available for free AS WELL as to the user that has paid, > > even after the trial period is over? > > Sorry, but I am not sure I understand what you're saying there. :( > > Did you consider making it a regular web application instead of a > desktop one? > You can then make it accessible to everyone, thereby complying with > the terms of the free API, but bands must login in order to interact > with their private data, and for that login you can charge money, > without restrictions. > > BTW, I like this Trip Cost Calculator very > much:http://www.gasbuddy.com/Trip_Calculator.aspx > > -- > Marcelo -http://maps.forum.nu > -- > > > > > > > On Dec 15, 3:44 pm, Andrew Leach <andrew.leac...@googlemail.com> > > wrote: > > > > On Dec 15, 3:40 pm, jdrawmer <j...@formasual.net> wrote: > > > > > Can my application be a free trial with the option to buy after, or > > > > would I still have to pay the $10,000+ if that was the case? > > > > Read the Terms :-)http://code.google.com/apis/maps/terms.html > > > > Using the free API you can't charge for the use of the API or the > > > mapping.
