Seeing the code that someone else has written helps others in several
different factors:
It shows the direction the person asking the question was heading.
We have an idea of which direction the person asking the question
intends to be.
And most importantly, we see where the person who was asking the
question is stuck at. In situations such as this it helps me to describe to
the person what is wrong and how they may have misinterpreted the
documentation, so that they may fully grasp the concept.

You can feed someone line after line of code, it doesn't mean that they will
ever really grasp the concept of what is going on unless they have tried to
dive into it and learn it on their own. Then, when they get stuck and ask a
question, someone can come along and explain to them exactly what was going
on, why it was going wrong, how they may fix it, and give the person a much
better understanding of the concept as a whole.

I am no expert and I do admit sometimes having someone toss out an answer
seems tempting, but in the end you really only hurt yourself and never
really get anywhere.
