UPDATE: Looking at this in more depth, it appears to be less about the number of nodes in each polygon, but more about the number of lines in the actual kml file. When there are more than 500 kml file (well around 510) then the file doesn't load correctly. This doesn't seem to matter if it's one complicated polygon, or a couple of more simple ones.
Surely there's not a size limit (either by line or filesize) on kml files is there? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
