There certainly are limits on size and complexity

Google's KML parser is a shared resource and protects itself from
resource hogging.
Those documented limits don't seem too hard and fast in practice, it
may all have more to do with execution time at the parser.

I should try simplifying your polygons, which would bring benefits all
round - smaller file, faster rendering.
