This question has probably been asked dozens of times. I tried to find
an answer, but with so many posts in this forum, I couldn't find any
posts directly related to my question.

I see the example for geocoding shows no ZIP code:

http://maps.google.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=1600+Amphitheatre+Parkway,+Mountain+View,+CA&sensor=true_or_false

The documentation does not explain anything about whether the address
sent for geocoding must contain ZIP or whether it can be left off.
This is for U.S. addresses only.

Can I safely assume zip is not required for best practices when
geocoding?

Ed
