I noticed that as well. Funny, huh? I can't say I know any more than what the documentation says (and even that I only know in theory as I've never tried to put a static map on a phone). I thought that this may be useful: http://cell-phones.toptenreviews.com/smartphones/ as it at least gives you an idea of screen sizes of the most popular phones, but it sounds as if you're having other issues.
